Bryan Brown
Born: Jun 23, 1947
Ruggedly handsome Australian leading man who began acting in Britain in the mid 1970s and turned heads in one of his earliest movie roles, as one of the accused soldiers in Bruce Beresford's Boer War drama Breaker Morant (1979). Best known in the U.S. as the special-effects whiz in the colorful F/X (1986) and in its 1991 sequel,F/X2 Brown won high-profile roles as Tom Cruise's suicidal mentor in Cocktail (1988) and as Sigourney Weaver's love interest in Gorillas in the Mist (1988). Although he usually plays intense, stoic characters, Brown also projects a likability that, to date, hasn't been sufficiently tapped. (Recognizing this, he produced his own romantic comedy vehicle, Sweet Talker in 1990.) He is married to actress Rachel Ward, with whom he costarred in the popular TV miniseries "The Thorn Birds" (1983) and The Good Wife (1986). OTHER FILMS INCLUDE: 1977:The Love Letters From Teralba Road (his first); 1978:The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, Newsfront 1981: The Winter of Our Dreams 1984:Give My Regards to Broad Street 1985:Rebel 1986:Tai-Pan 1991: Prisoners of the Sun 1993: The Last Hit (telefilm).
